    Default Project Sleeper(thats original)

Ok so as the story goes....I got my Maxima from a guy for $500 to deliver pizzas in. It was a 6 cylinder running on 4 due to 2 injectors being shot. Had a small collision in it so no bags and the exhaust was broke apart. I got it in November and although the wife was kinda ticked cuz I got rid of my Trooper she has since gotten over it...lol. When I drove it home from Fishers it got like 8-10 mpg and bucked and kicked and was LOUD!!! So it all began...

Since November not a whole lot has been done but heres what has been...
    "new" injectors
    new thermostat
piece of flex for the exhaust
    cold air intake
    tune up
Underdrive Pulley(still on the garage floor)
various little things like taking the shot bag out of the dash and taping up the steering wheel...lol. Ive glued down pieces of trim and just started doing little things here and there until the wife lets me spend again.

    The plans are...
2 1/2" exhaust up to and including the "Y" pipe
Phenolic Thermal Intake Manifold Spacer Kit
    2000 Pathfinder Throttlebody
    JWT ECU
    3.5L cams w/ adapters
    Engine Torque Link Bracing Kit
    "performance" brakes and rotors
    new struts or coiklovers
factory rims off and Infinity or Nissan(or whatever else I like and fit)
tires that are worth a crap
    rattle can job
    Engine Torque Link Bracing Kit

Its not alot because at the moment Im not lookin for alot of power but would like to try and hit the 200whp mark without boost bottle or intake swap just to say I did then I can figure out if I want to dig deep for boost and the intake swap. Its preety much my first time dealing with the import thing but I do think its fun and even more fun being the "old guy in the tuner" lol....damn kids say the darndest things. Hopefully I can start adding to this soon and crossing things off.
    Just want to get moving!!!!

It's not a sleeper if you tell everyone about it.

    I also wouldn't consider 200hp to be a sleeper, unless it's a RadioFlyer.

As far as 200whp....the fellas on the Maxima forums dont believe that you can hit 200whp without boost bottle or the intake swap and for what its worth I just want them to shut up and see that it is. Factory the VQ30DE is 190HP 205TQ....dont have to be a rocket scientist to see that it can be done. the VQ30DE usually dynos between 160 and 170 so I dont see a prob

Yea, for the most part, anyone that you run into won't know that it's putting down anything. They will probably just look at it as another Nissan. 200whp isn't bad, I was just giving you a hard time.

sounds like a fun project. 200hp, then a turbo could make for a fun street car indeed.

Sounds like you need an SR20VE..those will do 200whp easy without boost or bottle.

A small shot of nitrous would top off your build well or some reliable power boosting.

does your motor use the same mounts as a vq35? if so you should totally pull one out of a maxima or van.

Yup its a common swap to do and it isnt that hard from what Ive read. Dont think I want to get into that just yet tho....lol. I would like to find another VQ30DE and just rebuild it from the ground up the way I want it.The only problem with that is I want high compression and if I were to go the boost route at a later date I would severely have to limit the amount of boost I can apply. There are guys running 11.3:1 with 9lbs of boost but that just sounds dangerous to me.

After reading some more and looking over a few different ideas it definately looks like its all in the tune. If I can find a place to tune it and get the timing advanced and the air fuel ratio lined out it should really help that motor. Some of the guys added an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and added fuel pressure then backed it up with a SAFC and took fuel out which tricked the computer into advancing the timing about 8*. Seems to be a cheap route to travel but gotta do alot more before I dig into that stuff

Well that didnt take long...lol. Finally decided to get off my lazy ass and do something. I put the pulley on this last weekend. Not a huge difference in power or anything but it does seem to run smoother and revs a little quicker.
Now just have to get my wife out of school and bringing in some money and I can start doing more...lol. Still thinkin Im going to buy a 2nd motor to rebuild and that way if something were to take to long to install Im not hoofin it to work.

    Heres a couple pix

    Heres the comparison...

Here it is on the car...

Actually I have thought about all kinds of different routes to take...lol. I really would like to stay NA with it but yknow how that goes. I did look at superchargers and found alot on various message boards for sale but dont know yet. Here recently I have batted around a 3.5L swap more and more....too many options...lol
